We join Richard Davies, CEO of Platinum Property Partners (PPP), for a brief chat about how it all began and where he is now. Richard usually works quietly in the background, so we thought it’d be nice for you all to learn a little more about him personally!
How and when did you become involved with PPP?
In 2008, Steve Bolton recruited me! I came from a commercial background and was the front-man of my own business called Property Secrets. However, when I joined PPP we decided that we didn’t need both of us to fulfil that role and so I became the Financial Director – I was running the company and Steve was running the business. Steve was dealing with all of the Franchise Partners directly, taking responsibility for the forward-facing aspects such as marketing and I was building all of the structure and arranging the finances. This was a very fledging time for us as we were still working from a back bedroom!
What is your career highlight so far?
I know it’s a bit corny, but every day is a highlight for me. I believe a career is not just about building for today, it’s about building for the future. Each day, my team and I get stronger and in terms of growth – we are in a better position than we have ever been. Although every day may not be easy, I love to watch the members of my team grow and I measure my achievements based on what they achieve also.
What’s the future for PPP?
As a forward-thinking company, we are always looking for new opportunities and ways of supporting our Franchise Partners. We plan to continue with the plan of helping novice and experienced property investors to secure their financial future and achieve their broader goals in life.
How do you relax?
Mostly by running – I am naturally a racer, and I have competed in over 1000 races in my life. I also love being with my dogs and my loved ones.
What football team do you follow?
Well... I don’t really follow football – but I am very pleased that Bournemouth are doing so well! You have to support your home team and they are really smashing it!
Your fantasy dinner party guests?
Warren Buffet, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos… I’d also like to invite Nelson Mandela – I really believe in all of their values and they make a lot of sense to me.
Who’d play you in the film of your life?
I think Christian Bale – apparently on my Facebook page I look like a cross between Christian Bale and Jesus!
How would you like to be remembered?
Hopefully it will be a long time before this happens but I’d like to be remembered as someone that gave meaning to other people’s lives. Jeff Bezos once said ‘you can have a job, or a career or a calling’ – if I could help as many people find their calling, I’d like to be remembered for that.
I’ve gone through the whole money curve, I don’t care about material stuff anymore – apart from flying Business class on long haul – that’s the only thing I appreciate. The car I have just bought cost me £1,200, I’ve gone through all the silly stuff and the only thing that really matters to me now – is people.
