It seems there's a ‘World Day’ for just about everything these days...
World Kindness Day, World Radio Day, World Sword Swallower’s Day (yes, really!).
But there was one on Friday that we'd like to pay particular attention to; World Tourism Day.
Platinum Property Partners (PPP) are lucky enough to have set up shop in 2007, with our head office based in the beautiful town of Bournemouth. Which just so happens to be a splendid spot for a UK holiday.
It’s such a popular tourist destination that it welcomes 6.88 million visitors every year, and sells about 750,000 ice creams along its seven-mile stretch of seafront.
In light of World Tourism day, we'd like to celebrate the top attractions this town has to offer, just in case you'd like to take a visit one day (and why not pop in to say hello to us at the same time!)
So here we go...
The Beach There are 14 beaches in and around Bournemouth, four of which – Alum Chine, Durley Chine, Fisherman’s Walk and Southbourne – have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag. Durley Chine has held this accolade for every one of the 32 years since the scheme began. Blue Flag beaches are clean, safe, offer good services and provide excellent environmental management. Bournemouth beaches are also some of the safest in the UK, with Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeguards based along the sands. Baywatch eat your heart out!
PierZip Get your adrenaline pumping as you zoom along the first pier-to-shore zip wire in the world. You’ll be suspended 25 metres above the sea when you first launch yourself from the tower, then will speed along the 250-metre zip wire until you arrive, windswept but smiling (hopefully!), on the beach. What’s fun is that it’s a dual-line, meaning you can ride alongside someone you know. Time for rush hour! (rockreef.co.uk/pierzip/)
Captain’s Club Spa Did somebody order some me-time? Set inside the Captain Club’s Hotel, which looks over the lovely River Stour, this spa will certainly recharge your batteries. With a host of spa days and packages on offer – from ‘Seas the Dream’ to ‘Riverbank Revival’ – you’ll be kneaded, spritzed and pampered... oh, and also plied with champagne, should you so desire. Aaaaaaaand relax. (www.captainsclubhotel.com/spa/)
Hengistbury Head Blow the cobwebs away with a walk up this dramatic headland, which has stunning views across the New Forest, Isle of Wight and the Purbecks. People have been visiting Hengistbury Head for the past 12,000 years and, because of its archaeology, it’s deemed a site of international importance and classified an Ancient Monument. There’s also a cute noddy train. (www.visithengistburyhead.co.uk)
Indi’s Every year, World Tourism Day has a ‘host country’, and this year it’s India. As such, we thought we’d highlight one of the best curry houses in town: Indi’s. Having been in business for 17 years, the restaurant won the Asian Curry Awards in 2013 and continues to tickle Bournemouth’s taste buds with its delicious dishes. After all, spice is the variety of life. (indis.co.uk/)
